How Can it Be May Already?

Greetings FFH! Can it be May? We last posted after the swimathon. It seems like just a few weeks ago it was wrapping up and here we posting summer swim schedule updates and talking about the annual Brian Demchak Hope 5k!

We are most excited to share that we hosted a meet. We had 36 swimmers (or so) and 100 splashes (if the term is used for each start and relays count as one splash). When USMS uploads our times I suspect Moon's Nate Mott will have a top 10 USMS in the 200 backstroke. The highlight in the pool was the final event--150 yards any equipment (without a motor of course)-- Young Bob Craddock (YBC) earned his gold by starting from the block with fins, paddles and some sort of floatation device. The highlight out of the pool was the bring your own brunch to FCHS after the meet-- it was fun to have all of the swimmers getting to know one another a bit better. It makes meets more fun for everyone in the water.

Thanks to the FFH team of volunteers-- parents and kids who timed, teammates who ran ribbons, food etc. Thanks to our officials Dave Watterson and Aaron Siri and ginormous thanks to Mike Kristufek for teaching me how to build the meet, then how to enter the swimmers and then coming and running it. We look forward to hosting more meets and continuing the tradition of the 150!

Later we celebrated Coach Thor's engagement at his wedding shower-- he and Abigail get married May 10th and then head off on their honeymoon (we will have some subs in May @ SSA). We are looking forward to running (or walking) on Sunday May 19th at the Brian Demchak Hope 5k-- please grab your family and our dog and join us. Register your family here! We are getting shirts so sign up quickly!

We have some pregnant FFH and look forward to showering them this spring and will kick off Memorial Day weekend with our annual Bring Your Own Brunch on the FCRC Deck on Sunday May 26th. We are also going to participate in the Brogan Open Water Swim in Cleveland on Saturday July 13th! Register for this here.

And many of you know that Joella Baker organizes a lot of open water events out of Moraine State Park-- the schedule of swims is listed here. Check them out-- a great place to work on no-turn swims in non-clear water. I happen to be a big open water fan-- but I found my love there because I kept doing it, it wasn't at first site... Consider trying it. And there is something to be said for actually getting somewhere when you swim (vs our beloved 25 yard gerbil wheel).

Our summer schedule will be

M/W ams @ FCHS 6-7:30

T/R ams @ FCRC 6-7:30

Sat am @ CSC 8-9:30

Sun am @ FCRC 9-10:30

We will head outside starting Memorial Day weekend HOWEVER until schools are fully out--- you will need to pay attention to this page, FB/twitter etc. And each coach will have a sign in book-- please get used to singing in-- drop in or not, it is the state law for these clubs and we need to honor it.

I always am asked why we cannot have evening practices and the answer is that there is no available evening water in the summer. For this reason, I brought back later weekend start times-- it works with the schedule this summer and helps the evening swimmers who aren't early am creatures.

Thanks for all of your support and help-- we will have a change in August when FCHS closes for cleaning, this is still TBD.
