Rules for Swimming in Pandemic Times

FFH-- I am thrilled that we got into the water. I am truly a more reasonable person with a better outlook when I am swimming. The water is amazing.

That said-- we are going to lose it if we do not hold to the strictest of rules. And I need you to be vigilant even when I am not there. I need you to protect the water for yourselves.

There are cameras everywhere. You were seen last night entering the side door on the pool deck. Entering accidentally without a mask. Going right to the pool deck instead of the bleachers.

We are the only group that is using the pool let alone using the school that is NOT a student group. WE ARE IT. And I have already been contacted about this.

These are the rules and they are NON NEGOTIABLE. Nothing personal. They simply are.

  • When entering FCHS you will come up the stairs across from the field house and wait to be let in. (Someone will be at the door 8:05-8:15 Mon/Wed PM 1:10-1:25 PM Saturday and then 7:45-7:55 and 9:25-9:35 AM Sunday)

  • You will not enter without a mask, in fact you won't even be walking to the school unmasked from your car.

  • You will be greeted by the volunteer FFH (so that it doesn't always have to be Libby or Cory-- thank you!) who will take your temperature.

  • You will go directly into the stands-- if the stairs are difficult for any reason, please use the elevator.

  • Once the coach or leader for the practice tells you that it is ok to go to the deck, you will go down the stairs and place your things on the bench.

  • In theory-- the kids leaving will have their stuff on the other side of the pool. There will be space to stay apart. However if this does not occur-- please stay away from the kids.

    • If the predominant strain in this country becomes the UK strain-- it will be even more contagious. And I listened to 4 conference calls between UPMC leadership/ county/ID yesterday. It will likely happen.

    • When we are undressing and the kids are dressing-- that is a mask off time for many

    • I don't want you near the kids

    • I don't want the kids near you

    • i love you and the kids BOTH

  • When practice ends-- mask immediately, quickly dress and leave. If you want to chat, do it as you head to the car. You may leave from the pool deck.

  • If you are late (accidents happen) and it is already 8:20 THEN AND ONLY THEN MAY YOU ENTER ONTO THE illegal POOL DECK ENTRANCE

  • However repeat offenders will be asked to leave

  • Please do NOT come directly ONTO THE DECK FROM OUTSIDE OF THE POOL (diving board area) EVEN IF IT IS 8:20-- the kids are on the DECK. You will still come up to the bleachers and come dwn the other side.

Travel Policy: We will be observing the policy set forth by the state. I am aware that not everything regarding COVID-19 from the state makes sense. In fact UPMC has different policies than the state. That said-- as we swim in a public school, we will follow their guidelines. If you travel out of the state you will be asked to stay out of the water for 10 days upon your return unless you have a COVID-19 test at any time during those 10 days and it is negative. You will need to send me the result if you want to get into the water before the 10 days. (I know that part makes no sense. Yes. You can travel and be tested day 2 into returning and have been to a party the night before you returned, been exposed to COVID and then tested 48 hours later, be negative and sick within 36 hours of the negative test. I KNOW THIS IS NOT COMPLETELY SENSICAL. But I am not in charge of the state.) https://www.health.pa.gov/topics/disease/coronavirus/Pages/Travelers.aspxI would ask that if you attend any large event that might risk exposure that you stay away. And of course-- if someone in your household is being tested, please await results and if positive-- observe the quarantine period. And if you have questions-- please feel free to ask. COVID seems to be my life and I trace and track all of the time inside and outside of work.

And no one needs to apologize or feel guilty. We just need to do better. We need to get how lucky we were to get into the pool.

Again in regards to the FCHS-- we are THE only group inside the school let alone the pool. We will lose our water time if it happens again.
