July 2019 (Floods n@)

Really? Did we need another flood? But we got one! As 2.5 or so inches of rain fell last Thursday, July 11, in about 25 minutes-- a year and 7 and 9 days from last year's two floods.  It flooded differently (from the storm drains rather than the creek over the wall, it would seem) and the staff at FCRC pulled off the ironman of clean up efforts. The images are amazing. As I type-- our new manager and staff have cleaned, "demudded", washed, filled and properly chemicaled the pool. We can swim there on Tuesday July 16!

In just this past week we had a flood and were welcomed by USMS teams all over the city -- a shout out of thanks to those immediate texts offering water for the team, it is so appreciated! The Fox Chapel Golf Club offered to help as long as needed and we had a wonderful practice this past Sunday in their beautiful pool. The Fox Chapel HS also offered to house us. We all underestimated the power of Carl and his FCRC team, and barely needed to fall back on all that kindness.

We also welcomed a new baby today-- Nancy and her husband welcomed a baby girl to the world this morning, she skipped practice... Welcome to the world baby Rixe Spurkland. We have more swimming babies to come this summer, stay tuned! Love that Nancy was at practice the day before she went into labor!

Libby Ernharth, Cory Siri, Alecia Clark and Jen Brogan traveled to Cleveland where they swam in the Brogan Classic Open Water Swim-- a 1/2 m,1m and 2m swim hosted by Ohio Master Swimming on Lake Erie. They were joined by Carrie Whisel from Moon who was the second woman to cross in the 2m. Libby and Cory were hosted by FFH Mike Black who recently took a position in Cleveland. Together they met Jay Definis who is the LMSC chair there and graduated from FCHS. He wanted our team to know that they routinely have weekend open water swims and often potluck picnics on Lake Erie during the summer and encouraged anyone traveling who was interested to check out Ohio Masters on FB for updates. I hope to encourage a lot more FFH to join next summer- it was a beautiful and well run event.

We are now firming up details for next year-- we will start enrollment September 1 for the 2019/2020 season and Cory and I will update with details towards the end of July
