Swim Gear
We get a lot of emails about swim gear recommendations, so I figured it was time to make it public. None of this is sponsored or affiliate linked. It's just what I personally use, what I see most often at practice, and what I'd suggest if you're starting to build out your swim bag.
Here’s what's popular:
Paddles
I think these are the most important. You'll feel pretty quickly if your catch in the water is wrong. You can get them on Amazon, or I believe we still have a larger pair floating around in the FFH swag bin if want to grab those.
They come in different sizes, so ask around next time you're at the pool and see if someone will let you try theirs before buying!
Pull Buoy
A buoy is really helpful with paddles because it helps with hip and body position. This is the one I have.
If you buy one somewhere else, just do a little digging and make sure it's adult sized!
Snorkel
Some people LOVE using a snorkel with paddles and a buoy. I personally do not, but this is the one you’ll see most people use at practice.
Fins!
You'll see both short fins and long fins at practice. I have both. You definitely do NOT need both.
Long fins are better for easy speed, tend to be more comfortable, and are great for beginner and intermediate swimmers. Short fins are more commonly used by experienced swimmers. They're tougher on the legs, which you may NOT want if you're a triathlete, but they mimic a more natural kick.
These are my favorites, but again, everyone at practice is really nice, so someone would probably let you try theirs before you buy!
Kickboard
Pretty important, but honestly there are a million at every pool, so if you're trying to save some $$, you can always easily borrow one.
We may still have an Arena kickboard for sale in the misc. gear bin, too.
Mesh Bag
Again, you don't need this, but this is the most popular mesh bag you'll see on deck.
And that's basically it! You definitely don't need to buy everything at once. If you're new to using swim gear, I'd start with paddles, a buoy, and fins, then add things as you figure out what you actually like using.
