Thankful for the Flying Fish Heads

We are Thankful for our blessings in health!!

We will start with Susan Kabazie who ran the Marine Corps marathon in DC a few weekends ago and enjoyed it with her friends and husband. Susan is an example of the beauty of trying new things. Her first swim meet at 50, swim practices, singing  in her church choir, running with friends. We are proud of her and look forward to getting to see more of her in the pool.

We are also thankful for our energizer bunny, our Coach, Matt Mauclair.  He ran just a short bit yesterday.. a single day 50 miler. I like to imagine for him it is another "weekend jog" requiring a few extra skittles and a bit of stretching. Because he is superman.

But as commonplace as his endurance events are becoming, they are still worthy of celebration. He works so hard for his super powers and we are so proud of his efforts and thankful for his example.

We are also thankful for team camaraderie and support. Last weekend 8 FFH friends and teammates traveled to St. Croix, US VI for the St. Croix Coral Reef Swim. Swimmers chose to swim 1,2 or 5 mile distances with or without fins. Adam Goode swam his mile beating his time from his first swim 2 years ago (and he had fins on the first time!), his wife Susan Buchman swam her mile and won her age group as did Danielle Micelli in the two mile without fins category!

Our fearless Cory Siri won the 2 mile fins division and Johannes Ernharth swam his very first open water mile. I swam the 5 mile-- a beautiful boat ride to Buck Island which is a national park and a swim to the mainland and then along the shore. Swimmers spotted barracuda, turtles, sea stars, fish of all colors, rays and crabs. Unofficially it is called the "Buck to Bucc"--- Buck's Island to the Buccaneer hotel and it is a well run swim.

Swimmers hope to go back again in a few years, consider joining! (Please don't forget your racing suit because you cannot buy one on St. Croix.)

Additionally:

  • We are thankful for our holiday schedule and the help we are given by the FCKW and Coach Dan. If you attend practice this week, take time to stop and thank him for picking up our practices since Matt and Andy are both traveling for the Holiday. FCHS swimming starts and we are very excited to see the energy that the FCHS kids bring to the water this year! Monday pm @ FCHS 8-9:30, Tuesday am @ SSA 5:45-7, Wednesday pm @ FCHS 6-7:30, Friday and Saturday 6:30-8 am @ FCHS. There will be NO practice Sunday.

  • We are thankful for the upcoming events this season. Please consider supporting the FCKW on Monday November 26 by stepping away from the leftover turkey and take your family to dine (in or out) at Chipotle. Come between 4-8 pm, and by taking the flier or showing them the flier on your phone they will donate to FCKW!!

  • Our holiday party will be Sunday December 16th from 6-8 pm @ Lauri Ann West Community Center (Get a sitter for the little ones, it is an adult event!). If you haven't received an evite, email Libby. Awards, slide shows, food and drinks.... always such fun!

  • At our holiday party you can chose to participate in the the Secret Santa gift exchange--please email Katie Kenyon for an assignment and rules! (you cannot spend more than 20$ on a building sized poster of Matt, you can wrap up Phelps but not Lochte, a life supply of Nuun tabs might be overkill ...etc)

  • Our annual Kicking champion of the world has started, see the events tab on the website, get an official time uploaded and wait with baited breath for awards announcements at the party.

  • Our Fundraiser for FCKW-- our Swimathon will occur on Friday 12/28/18 from 11 am-3 pm. Pick a distance, set a goal and make a donation. You can ask your neighbors/parents to sponsor you if you would like to, we hope to raise money for the club-- to date we have pledges of 900$, please check out the google doc and make a commitment. 100 X100s? 50X 50s? Your choice! We are Masters swimmers, pick your challenge! All who swim and donate more than 50$ will get shirt being designed by Lindsay, Joh and Ron (feel free to volunteer to join the committee) After the swim, join us that evening at Libby & Joh's for snacks and beers. (There is time to nap in between). Remember that donations are tax-exempt to FCKW!
